Hamlet I.v.166-7
Washington D.C., 1920.
World War I and the Influenza Pandemic have left many Americans longing for contact with loved ones taken before their time. Margot and Jim Dare are willing to help... for money. The twins have styled themselves as spiritualists who will cross the threshold of death to bring back messages to the desperate living. They're frauds.
Former police officer Vernon Holliday knows that strange things happen no one on the force can explain. Joining up with the Dares, they become “The Phantastical Detectives”, taking the cases that no one else will take seriously, let alone investigate.
But stranger and stranger things are happening in their city. As Holliday begins to uncover the sinister truth behind the events, it grows harder for the Dares to deny there may be more reality to what they do than they care to admit.
Soon, they will be confronted with the past they've tried to run from in order to save the future. That is, if the eldritch forces they’ve unleashed don't get to them first...
